The Foundation looks for programmes that bring to young people a fresh approach to the arts, either in schools or in extra-curricular programmes. All programmes focus on hands-on activities, as the Foundation believes that everyone is capable of, and enriched by, practising art.

Through Our Eyes

Through Our Eyes focuses on helping young people to find and express their authentic voices through photography and creative writing. Students explore issues of identity, family, community, cultural heritage and the environment.

To date, more than 1,000 students from about 200 schools throughout Hong Kong and China have participated in Through Our Eyes. Creative works by students have been shared with the community in books and public exhibitions, such as the groundbreaking projection event, Wanchai In A Different Light, in December 2006.

Through Our Eyes is now being integrated into the extra-curricular activities of secondary schools in Hong Kong. Summer workshops are also held in Hong Kong and China.

International Exchange, Local Reconstruction

Collaborating with AiR Association's Hong Kong International Artists' Workshop 2008, a Foundation funded programme, two visiting artists shared their work and artistic experiences with over 40 Through Our Eyes students and veterans. They were India’s Abhinandita Mathur, an Indian photo-journalist with a strong interest in social issues,” and Michelle Brand, a British eco designer. Guided by Through Our Eyes teaching artists John Fung, Venus Lo and Wong Suk Ki, participants explored their own communities through lenses, capturing cluttered markets and forgotten corners. Through photo montage and working with found objects, students deconstructed and reconstructed their journey through the communities with heightened awareness and creative responses.
