From the Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation
With roots deep in Hong Kong and Chinese culture, The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation was established in Hong Kong with the mission to foster and promote arts and culture, in particular arts education and cross-cultural understanding between China and the world. We are very pleased that audiences in China will be able to enjoy the nearly 200 beautiful and varied objects in this exhibition through our sponsorship.
The exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the world and world-view of the Britons when Britain was emerging as an international power in the Georgian era. What meaning does it have for us now - how we see ourselves and the world – as China gains prominence on the world stage?
What underlies our philosophy is a strong belief in the importance of educating the whole person, and cultivating empathy and mutual understanding, thus benefiting the growth of the individual and the society. Enjoyment of the arts enriches our lives, liberating our potential and encouraging creative thinking. It also helps us approach issues in life, our society and the world with greater ingenuity. By supporting innovative programmes like this one, we hope to bring our philosophy into action.
We are also very pleased to bring together two great cultural institutions to work together in partnership in devising this visionary exhibition. No doubt their collaboration will bring inspiration to the development of long-term cultural exchanges between great museums in the world and in China.
We hope that you will find this exhibition as fascinating, thought provoking, and thoroughly enjoyable as we do.
